It's 10:14 PM here in Tuscania, Italy. I think this is the first time I've really sat down and relaxed all day post-flight (which landed at noon). I admittedly had a mild freak out at my gate, on the flight, during descent, and when I went through customs at the airport. I don't know what has gotten into me, but if you know me, you know that I NEVER cry about having to be social. I don't think it was even sadness or anything; it was just all my emotions (happiness, gratefulness, sadness, nervousness, excitement) and expectations coming at me all at once. Needless to say, I wasn't off to the best start.
As soon as I sat down at the (correct) Chef Express in the Rome FCO Airport, I met a girl named Moira, who I found out was doing the same program I was. Moira is from Chicago and goes to Iowa State and seems so awesome. I think we're really on the same page about traveling and studying and going out, which is awesome. Finally, at about 5 PM, we got to the apartments. I met my roommate, Louise, who is from Brooklyn and Jewish and sassy. She rocks. I also met my suitemates, Kelsey (from New York) and Amanda (from Miami). I met a few more girls on the shuttle to the apartments, too, but so far those four girls seem to be who I've hit it off with the most. I can't wait till I send them this link and they see what my initial reactions to them were.
I LOVE my apartment, too. It's like this old little cottage in the middle of an alley in gorgeous, antique Tuscania. We have this black spiral staircase to take us upstairs (no, it was NOT fun taking my luggage up them) and this little kitchen and living room area all made of cobblestone. The room is super spacious, too. (I'll get around to sending pictures later)
So far, it's been no more tears for ayberms. It's actually been a blast and Tuscania is just the coolest little city. I can't wait to explore more tomorrow. I have a very early rise (9 AM) for my Italian placement test, and then have until 2:30 for my actual orientation. I can't wait to meet the rest of my group (all 14 girls and 1 boy) and have more adventures!
Ciao y'all.
